    English Mastiff...... Who has one?

The other day Momma D and I were out running around and came across a lady selling some. We both decided that unless we get some bad info on these, that this will be the dog to replace our Lab when he goes.

Since I travel as much as I do, Momma D has gotten used to the idea of having a big dog around for security.

So, if you have a Mastiff let me hear your thoughts on them. Let me hear your likes, dislikes, general health, etc. experience with them.

They aren't great guard dogs unless you're counting on someone being afraid just off sheer size.

Great looking dogs........ I see you put the weights as 100 for females and 115 for males. Are these Bulls or English?

They are Dogo's - - The breed started with mastif and then added 10 other breeds for various reasons.

Super sweet dogs, and the last dog on the planet you want to meet in a dark alley...

They eat ALOT and drop 5 lb. landmines

My neighbors had a neopolitan mastiff and although intimidating size wise, it was really a big baby and friendly around kids and adults

my neighbor has one too. They asked me to feed her when they were out of town and she wouldn't have it , so I sent my 4 year old and she loved on him and she let him feed her.

I'll be watching this thread. We are currently looking for another dog to hang out with our 3 y/o lab and from the mastiffs I've met, they'd be a great pair.

From what I've read and such DJ, mastiffs are pretty low key, low maintenance dogs that are generally pretty healthy and clean, until they start to drool. I met one guy who has 2 and he referred to it as "wall art".

I had a 200lb male English and he was the sweetest dog, but protective of me when he felt threatened. He never bit, but his growl and bark was very intimidating. He slobbered a lot!

I had one as a grand dog that lived with us a lot. Sweet and loveable dog, VERY lazy...they love to lay around and sleep. Get used to the idea of keeping towels laying around the house and wiping their mouths after every time they eat/drink...they drool like crazy...The breed is VERY prone to hip displacia...much worse than labs and shepherds..she had to have almost $4000 of surgery as a 4 year old. Also generally have shorter life spans because of their size...I think 8 years is about average.
