Does $50 bucks sound right for a dump truck load. I am looking at about 100 loads to start building up the 2 acre homesite. Last time I bought regular ole fill dirt it was $35 a truckload!
If you can get clean fill for $50 a load in the houston area then let me know, because I pay close to $65 a load and I build houses.
The dirt is from one of the 65 acre lakes that is being built in the subdivision. Definitely clean, he claims this price cannot be beat in the Houston area. It was $40 a load until this past June. I just needed to be sure.
50 a load sounds right. You are paying for the trans. You also might want to put up a large sign saying"Fill Dirt Wanted" out in front.
Yea, but the whole transportation is about 3/4 of a mile from our homesite. I asked for a discount based on the amount of loads (50-75) and he noted that i have neighbors doing 150-200 loads without any discounts. Anyway, I am starting to feel better about it! I see those signs around town all the time but I don't think that would fly in this area.
I had a chance at clay for my slab for free but it was going to cost me $50 a load to get it hauled with me loading it. It was about a 10 mile haul. I could buy clay outrite for $75 a load. This was in Willis
the cost for trans is for o-x amount of miles most of the time. If they are going to use a bobtail ask the price if they use a tractor/trail. the bobtail is 12-14yards and the trac is avg. 24 yards.
We are paying $75 a load for select fill here in Bryan-College Station. If it's good fill for $50 jump on it Oscar.
"select fill"......dont know what that means to be honest. Heck, it is brown reddish dirt to me. I gotta assume that somebodys archietect or builder would have put a stop to using it if it was gonna be a problem. Some of these homes are 6 and 7,000 square foot.
Be carefull what kind of "fill" you put under your slab area.Most will work fine for general fill area around the lot.
This dirt is to fill in low areas that are not in the proposed slab area. We are just getting a head start on the process for landscaping. Lots of wet ground in southeast texas. We also plan to have the house about 4 feet above the street level to make it have a certain "effect"! Thus, lots and lots of dirt. I will be sure to inquire with my architect about the quality of dirt for the slab area.
i would jump on that quick as long as it is good fill. (not to many big rocks and other "trash") sounds more than fair.
No rocks down here for sure. Have not seen any trash in it. These place was probably paper company land 25 years ago. You can see some of the logging trails and I even saw a couple of box blinds when this section was being developed.

Not sure about the term bobtail and tractor/trail (tractor trailer?). The rigs are all Mack dump trucks that hold 12 yards packed and 8 yards unpacked? Does that sound correct??? I think that is how he positioned the statement when I asked how many yards on a truckload.
Looks like we are gonna go with 100 loads at $5,000 to start with tommorrow. Oh thanks again, you guys made us (wife and I) feel like it was a fair price. We are attempting to pay for as much with cash before we start building in the spring and would prefer dirt work NOT be part of the loan needed to build the house.
mack dump truck is a bobtail. the 12 packed and 8 unpacked- is the guy trying to say- sometimes we are heavy and sometimes we are light. but 4 yards either way is alot. if at all posible count trucks. if nothing else get an avg over a time period.
Aha!!! Got'cha!!! Man, I am gonna know sooooo much new crap when this project is completed my head may explode!! I did see a nice deer out there today though!!! (-;
