RV Service = Not a Happy Camper

I experienced a leaky A/C on my camper a yr ago during a camping trip. I had it serviced and was told bad gasket. They put a new gasket on the unit and I pulled the camper back home. I never got the chance to get back out last yr to camp. Fast forward two weeks ago. I was prepping for a trip and pulled the unit out and ran the A/C. Guess what...still leaks but worst now. The camper has been stored in my garage (pop-up) for a yr and not used since service. I called the RV place and told me to check the drain off holes to make sure no insects or any debris had plugged them. Guess what...I discovered NO insects or debris but the front two bolts were very loose. I took a 1/8 inch flat piece of metal and ran it under to discover it would pass through without any contact with the gasket. So apparently on replacing the new gasket the A/C unit was nevered secured to the roof on the front two bolts and there is a gap meaning the gasket wasnt even contacting the roof. So i take pictures and send an email to the RV place explaining the story after I had already talked to them by phone. They called back and left a message to ask about tightening it down and how much distance or thickness i should have after compression. They didn't even offer to fix their original mistake. Where is the great customer service these days???
Sorry...just very disappointed. I paid in excess of $200 to have it serviced last yr to only find out it leaks worse now due to poor installation.

You have all you need to go to their higher ups. Hopefully you have the receipt. Go get your monies worth.

I talked with their higher ups. They first informed me that they only honored service upto 90 days. However, this is differenct situation of poor service with proof of incomplete install. Now they are guiding me on how to fix it myself. I'm not paying any more for them to finally fix it. They haven't expressed any interest in me bringing it back to have it fixed by them at no cost.

Regardless they did the damage. They are hoping that you will attemp to fix their mistake and in the process if can't and take it to them they will then argue that their work has been tampered with. Ugly situation but I'd take it back to them for them to fix and if by some chance they have customers I'd make sure that they quietly find out about the crappy workmanship and service. That's just me.

Yep I would take it back to them and hopefully in a crowded showroom nicley explain to the manager waht was going on. Then if they do not offer to fix THEIR mistake I would calmly but loudly so everyone can here how disipointed I was in there crappy service. And explin that I will fix it my self and the money they want to charge I will spend on advertising how crappy this place is. And go to every message baord I could on the web and tell people what I think.

Have you specifically told them what you want...don't hem and haw around with them. I would tell them clearly that:

            1. You paid a fair price for a complete job.
            2. You failed to get a complete job.
            3. You want them to complete the job correctly at their cost.
            4. Acknowledge that you should have inspected their work a year ago when you picked it up, but that you had depended on them to professionally complete the repair as agreed upon.

Name please?????? We always say that "word of mouth" can be a killer as well as great advertisement.

I don't want to take my unit to the same place and have poor workmanship done.

Traditional RV Service through a dealer is the reason I have been able to keep my little Mobile RV repair service going for 10 years. It's terrible everywhere, most place in the Houston area will not let you bring it in unless you schedule it in about 3 to 4 weeks in advance, and they keep it about 2 months.

I read a few years ago in a RV magazine, that there is over 8000 RV per 1 service tech.

When I first called them i was specific on what i expected on fixing it. They would not honor the orginal work. they stated they fixed the gasket problem but perhaps there was a secondary issue. Like i stated the install was incomplete with the new gasket. I called again after sending the pictures and explaining. They again are not wanting to fix it at least yet. I have not had the chance to get back with them. I would of thought after realizing they were at fault there would be no issues getting them to repair at no cost. The place is SouthernRV northside of Tyler, TX

Can you tighten the bolts yourself and it be fixed?

That's what i did. I just want to be cautious not to over compress and damage the gasket. They gave me a rule of thumb to go by. It at least beats paying fuel cost to tow it there and back for them to do the same thing.

Doesnt matter were it has been stored, it has been dry and hot, any seal/gasket will shrink and leak in weather like this..

Without checking the repair immediately, how can you be certain that they didn't fix the problem at the time?

IMO, I would be surprised if ANY business would repair anything a year later for free. A lot can happen in a year.
