A man has climbed town from the top of a electrical tower along the Hardy Toll Road in north Houston and was taken into custody this morning, police said.
Eric Garcia, who identified himself as a neighbor of the man on the tower, said the climber was a "nice guy" and an artist. He said the man and his mother live together within a few hundred yards of the tower.
"He's cool to hang out with," Garcia said. He said he didn't know why his neighbor climbed the tower.
The man was spotted on the tower along the southbound toll road near Twin Oaks about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Houston Fire Department. He was shirtless and was wearing green military fatigue pants.
Officials said the man was 100 to 150 feet above the ground.
One lane of the toll road has been shut down while emergency crews attempt to get the man off the tower.
No other information was immediately available.
