    Hardeman County Drought

how does the drought effect deer, do deer need allot of water to drink? Ive seen some rain on radar around our area but it's not enough to fill the dry tanks, so how tough are deer in these conditions? Next month ughh

We are going to find out pretty soon. Our place is dry as a bone and no relief in sight.

it looked like Childress got a decent soaking a day or so ago, Hardeman Co seems to keep missing any rain.

Every deer is different. Some will struggle or die from a drought and some will barely notice a difference. Their proximity to water and good nutrition will have an effect on their bodies, antlers, and milk. Fawns normally don't have a very good survival rate during droughts.

Expect an average drop in the bucks antlers, but there will still be some big bucks killed this year across the state

How much water does a deer require?

              As much as they need

You need at least 1 water source per square mile, but one water source per 300 acres would be optimal.

Unfortunately less rain means less forage and less forage means deer are in poorer condition and generally have smaller antlers in the fall. We're in Hardeman also and this has been a tough summer.
