    Drought and corn

Well I was about to go fill feeders because I know the deer are super hungry. I see them in middle of the day feeding now. Poor things. I hear deer corn has little nutritional value for them, is that true?

Anyway it stinks because this summer is when we all should be feeding the deer but I bet most people are not due to 10-11 per bag prices.

Was about to go but then added the cost of fuel and corn and had second thoughts LOL...

But there is only 1.6% inflation according to the FEDS and a higher risk of deflation! LOL

Corn is mostly carbs and 6-7 percent protein. Imho it is better than nothing and when food is limited, low quality food is better than starving. If they need it they will eat it. They will naturally eat what they need ( when available ).

^^^This is true, I'm hoping the price of corn comes down. We are still feeding corn just not as much as last year.

I just bought some soybean/corn mix, now I need to get my tailend down to the lease. I figured at $13.00 for 50# it's just as big a hit as corn at $8.00 for 40#s and might have a little bit more nutrition for 'em.

We are still feeding corn (and protein). The deer are hammering the protein. The hogs are keeping the deer away from the corn.

i have been feeding year round. At home and at the lease. Albeit low spin time. I hope to got to the lease next weekend and check the feeders and shoot some pigs. the dang coons and squirrels have teamed up with the pigs to get the corn.

I may have empty feeders. hope not.

Heck, I got took on corn I bought today. I could have got protein at Tractor Supply for the same price I paid for my corn.
                  Hope the deer like it.

Not sure if the guy in McKinney knows what he us talking about as he seems to know little when I ask, but...

I said something about deer corn the other day. He said they would have a new setup in a week or so and that 40# of corn would be right at $6.

Still not great, but better than I have seen!

6-7 % protein ain't bad , it 's just not high protein. The carbs (energy) certainly won't hurt a lactating doe, it is just not going to grow horns.

Well I went and put corn in the feeders. Wildlife is acting crazy, and the cows also LOL.
Saw 3 rabbits at 1pm. Two of them were just sitting right in the burning sunlight. The other was under an old 16' loaded trailer. This one would not run off. I walked up and got about 5-6' away and it just looked at me like..screw you buddy I ain't running out of my shade LOL

Cows were hungry and followed me and watched me putting corn in. They never got this close to be before at this place. Good thing that feeder is hanging way up in a tree.

Went and put out more corn today and check the trailcam. I had some coons around the feeder and one up the pole. This is the first time I have seen coons around my feeder.

I moved both my setups this off season and am just starting to get the deer back to them. Next weekend I'm going to add several bags of record rack golden nuggets to my 2 feeders. Can't hurt as it's 13% I think...
