    Lawnmower question

Sorry, I know hunting season has started but I know there are some know-it-alls...uh uh I mean knowledgable folks on here on all subjects, so I have to ask.....

I have a 12 year old Sears push mower that I have been expecting to die on me for 10 years now. Well not only has it never crapped out on me but it cranks (or did) on the first pull EVERY time.

I have never done anything except fill the gas and oil on this thing. So I got smart a few weeks ago and decided to replace the blade and air filter. I think I cut the grass once after that and had trouble starting it and it bogged down once and died while mowing.

Well this weekend, the dang thing won't start at all. When I prime it, it turns over and then quits. It's seems to be just getting the gas from the priming, burning that and then quitting. It's like it's not getting any gas.

Any ideas what I screwed up and how I can fix it????

I would say that when you turned the mower over you moved some trash and its gotten itno your bowl or needle vallve,,you will need to take the bowl off and clean out the hole..

Change the plug while you got it down. Could be fouled.

Same boat as we were, had our lawnmower 11 years but last year it started fouling up plugs quickly. Finally gave in and bought a new mower two months ago.

We paid $120 plus tax 11 years ago so I think we got our money out of it!!

Just go get a new one!!!

No kidding. Not only is it that old, but I got it on sale in the returned/slightly used area at Sears! So yes, I definitely got my moneys worth.

Tim Hicks - You're talking to a guy with zero knowledge of the engine. Can you be a little more specific? Can I blast something with carburator cleaner and get the job done?

run some sea foam through it. it may clear up the trash in the carb.

you can pick sea foam up at oreilly's

Tim Magee. Please email me at rickytee55@comcast.net. Huntin' question.

Good luck with your mower, Shock. Take the carburetor apart and put it back together. Should do it.

Once you take the bowl off the carburator..there is a little pin that holds a needle valve in the carb body.sometimes trash ,rust old grass will block the tiny hole and not allow enough gas to kep the bowl full. this is where it will start and then die after a minute,,,runniung out of fuel. B-12 sprayed in the hole after the needle valve is out may do the trick but i would also rinse the the tank and make sure the bowl hasnt got any trash in it

I think I'm going with the fouled plug therory. When you turned it over to replace the blade, oil got in the cylinder and fouled it . When you prime the carb you getting enough gas to get it to fire, but it won't get enough to run on it's own. Did it smoke like a cheap cigar when you tried to fire it up?
