    Creature Comforts- Modern AC

The whole family is home today sick, except me, so I am playing nurse/cook/pharmacy gopher/whatever..... One of the members of the family, I won't mention names (but it wasnt me, and one of the other 2 is 3 yrs old) throws a tantrum because it was 77 in our house!!!

It was forecasted for 105 today. I have always been told AC units can only efficiently cool down to about 20-25 degrees below the outside ambient temps. Seems to me that 77 isn't all that absurd given the heat we are having.

Nevermind that it hasnt been that long ago that folks survived in texas heat with little more than a swamp cooler. And not that much further in history they survived with nothing more than the shade of a wrap around porch and a glass of ice tea (notice i didn't mention a shade tree, because, well, we are in lubbock..... what's a shade tree

It was 102 here according to my outside thermometer and my AC stayed around 77 degrees today from 3-6. I keep it at 73 during the day. It ran all afternoon but that's just the way it is and has been for my 12 years here. The electric bill was $180 for this month so as long as it stays working I'm ok with it...

Tell them to go outside for 3-4 hours and it'll seem colder when they come back in..

      Good point

I remember growing up (lived with grandparents) the swamp cooler didn't get turned on until the outside temp was over 100. I don't know how I survived but I did.

Try working outside, even in the shade, it is just hot.
July, August and September and we are out of this mess.
This is our penalty to pay, for bad weather, at least we don't have the white stuff to deal with, so i'm ok with the heat.
I would like to see some rain though!!!
