I am going to pick up a Rossie 38 for my wife to carry from a guy I know that is the third owner. I would like to know if it is clean. Can one of my TBH run it to see if its not hot or is there a web site that I can check on? Thanks let me know and I will pm you the sr no.

JEG that is an interesting website. Looks like the gun has to be reported into thier database. It doesn't seem to be make/ mfg dependent and I wonder how reliable it is.

Texas Tracker- write down the s/n make and model and call or take it to the Sheriff's Office and ask them to run it. It doesn't usually take very long to run one. With Rossi, the model number is usually stamped on the crane. They tried to copy S&W as much as possible (and do a good job too)

But if it comes back hot, you will have to turn it in our report the person who currently posseses it

for sure...any good leo buddy should be able to have access.

i may be able to search the ffl website too...if it is stolen & has the s/n on the report, the owner may get it back. I got one 8 years after it was stolen from my dad's car. Beretta 84F

                            Sorry...no go for ffl's.

At first I thought this was silly but really does make sense that you do not want every ffl to start marking down s/n's of other guns unless it's been processed through their own aquisition / disposition books.

i guess i was picturing calling the sherriff and "hey i got this gun for $*** and wondered if it is stolen," and then they slap cuffs on you or try to pin you with a gang shooting or some other nonsense.
