    Knot Challenged

Not talking fishing knots but rope knots here, how many people are knot savvy on here?

I use rope in my job almost daily and the knots are important. But it seems like I never see any one else that knows knots anymore, except maybe a compound granny. Does any one even know the three things that make a good knot? Just wondering.

We use and train with them pretty often for rescue at the FD. I review them about once a month at animatedknots.com. The least amount of bends makes the strongest knot (takes away lest amount of ropes tensile strength).

I used to do a lot of rock climbing and still do a fair amount of sailing. I love knots.

I've always been horrible with knots. I own about 50 ratchet straps for this reason! What a wonderful invention.

i always tie a buck not. You gotta have a buck knife to untie it.

As far as 3 things that make a good knot, never heard any specific three, but I like a knot that is as strong as the rope as possible, self tightening, and easy to untie no matter how tight it gets. Love the bowline knot. I think it's my favorite.

I've never heard of any three things but if it was me making the specs...

It would be easy to tie, easy to untie and holds enough to do the task at hand (proper knot for the job).

I consider myself pretty savy, although I know several people that can tie over 50 knots.

Bowline, clove hitch, 1/2 hitch, bloodline, sheepshank, and square knots for rope are my favorite. Palomar is the only knot needed for fishin.

"if you do not know how to tie knots, then tie lots of them."

the words I hate to hear is "Here, let me tie it" I trap a lot of hogs, nothing worse than to have a hog work loose in the back of a truck.

Now I use zip ties, problem solved. I have 3-4 knots that will let me survive anything.
