Gen I bought my son a shakespear microcast at academy and it works great. He's had it for about 2 years now. He's 6. I just hand him his pole and he does the rest himself. He even taught his 5 year old cousin how to cast with it.

Gen-not sure how much you are wanting to spend, but there are 2 Curado's in the Classifieds. They are some of the best reels out there in my opnion. Can go salt or fresh water fishing with them and have no problems. These are not my reels, just giving you another option.

LOL Steve knows! I really am bad about tangling a line. It doesnt matter what type of reel or how cheap or expensive it is. Its a curse.

If you set up a baitcaster right, you have very little backlash. I was the same way when I started fishing. I never had anything but the old Garcia's growing up and backlashed constantly. I bought a good Shimano and set the brakes, and the spool tension, and I can cast into the wind no prob.

A 6 foot or 6.5 foot rod would be best for your purpose. And you CAN NOT interchange spinning reels with with other type rods. Spinning rods have large eyelets to allow for the large loops that the line comes off the spool in.

Go here and look at all 3 pages to see more. Been a while since I updated it though.
We need a good flood again.
