According to the story I read about this picture, he is a Sgt from Kansas working in a med facility. The little girls entire family was executed by members of a rival faction - she was shot in the head but the docs were able to save her. As you might imagine, she is in a bad way - he somehow connected with her and the only way she can sleep is in his arms. He's been sleeping in a chair each night. I'm sure there are countless stories like this throughout Iraq and Afganistan. Words fail me. God Bless America and Godspeed to all our heroes...
