I was wondering if you buy a used pistol from a private seller, what do you have to do to get the firearm in your name? Is it a big hassel? Thanks

There is no gun registration in the great state of Texas.

Anthony, say you purchase a gun from someone you don't know, you get pulled over with it in the ride or whatever...serial is run, comes up stolen or whatever....now what....now if you have a paper trail, pic of drivers license and documentation of transaction...can't really refute that......Last edited by blacksunshine; 06-29-2011, 06:55 PM.

Will that be the same?

If he runs the number and it comes back as not stolen no problem. If it's shown stolen then I don't know. I would like TVC184 to chime in about that.
But even if you have all that paperwork that blacksunshine talks of, you are still in possession of a stolen gun. Not sure how that's going to help you since you are the one currently in possession of it. I do remember TVC saying another thread that it's not against the law to be in possession of stolen property. Not sure if that applies to firearms as well.
When dealing in gun transactions, common sense goes a long way. Most folks can tell when they are dealing with a shady character.
