    garlic powder in dogs food

Read several post on here about using garlic powder in dogs food to help control fleas. Anyone know how much to use on a 75lb lab and do you use it everyday or how often?

Doubt if you will, but I have been using it for years and it works wonders. I have a dog that is allergic to fleas and by using this method she has been flea and tick free for 15 years. She is also an outside dog.

To answer the original question........I mix a large tablespoon of garlic powder with a teaspoon of beef/chicken boulon and water. I use a sports bottle to mix it in. I put it on dry dog food every day for my dog.

How much bouillon and/or water do you mix it with?

Do you put that entire mixture on the dry food daily?

Just enough to wet the food. It should last 2-3 feedings for a medium to large size dog.....I may over do mine as well since my dog is allergic to fleas.......

Hopefully a veterinarian will weigh in on this one. I've always heard that garlic in large amounts is toxic to dogs.

Never heard that, but my family has been using this recipe for 4 generations on all kinds of working dogs.......But would like to hear a vets opinion.

Better watch out with garlic and onion as I have been told they can be toxic to dogs. Especially cats too on the garlic stuff. I think it effects liver and or kidney functions.

If you tell your vet your giving the dogs garlic my guess is he'll probably want to check their red blood cell count.

This sounds good if it works, but my dog will let her food sit all week and will only eat it about once a week. Neighbors must feed her well.

I've heard this too and mix powder with my pets food from time to time.

garlic does come in pill form, but does not work for flea control. I did hear it does wonders for keeping vampires at bay
