Almost 130 counties have approved a ban on fireworks this year. Selfishly speaking, this is good news. Every night, from several days before the 4th to several days after, people in my neighborhood blast away till the wee hours of the morning. I have to sedate the dogs and sleep in earplugs - my roof and yard end up with dozens of spent pop bottle rockets and other debris. Gonna be really tough on those in the business though.

Sure glad I'm not in the fireworks business....

Im all for it as well Jerp....Living in the country, I've seen so many pastures, barns and houses burn due to fireworks it makes ya sick. My friend lost everything about 3 years ago due to fireworks. A 2 dollar roman candle displaced his wife and 3 kids and cost them all of their possessions. Just not worth it.
Im always a wreck the week of the 4th, especially during dry conditions.

I will be spending the weekend at the FD. Fri Sat and Sunday night we will be busy. They are banned here but the folks coming in for thier mini vacations will still be dumb enough to bring them with them. We have our cheif and 2 constables ready to run our area and I can guarentee ther will be tickets written. There is a 2000 dollar fine in a lil comunity that is next to me if they catch you shooting them.

I wish that Victoria Co. would ban the sale of fireworks. My wife and I had this same conversation last night. The idiots from town will buy the fireworks, drive out to the country, find a back road and start burning down the whole county. Then they will drive back to their safe city house, and those of us that live in the country will be left to deal with their stupidity.
Makes me mad, to say the least.

Tuesday night, my next door neighbor who is usually one that blasts fireworks till at least midnight on the 4th, told me that he heard on the news that there was a ban on fireworks. This was when I went over to tell him I him that the fire department was on the way to put out his BONFIRE! He had decided to burn his scrap lumber and limbs. Easily 30 foot flames in 20 mph winds.
Idiots amaze me daily.Last edited by Grndchecker; 06-23-2011, 08:45 AM.

I really don't understand why they didn't go to the same lengths as many of the other counties throughout the state.
The Walsh Ranch and Moncrief Ranch were running motor graders around their perimeters this morning...Last edited by Chad C; 06-23-2011, 08:51 AM.

I feel bad for the owners of the stands who depend on the income each year from firework sales. I also totally understand the reasoning behind the ban of sales. I just hope everyone takes common sense and obeys the law.....even though I know there will be some who will do what they want. I just hope it doesn't spark anything to cause another wildfire.

Just pulled this off Click2Houston.com
The following counties have issued bans on some types of fireworks:
•Austin County: ban on sticks and fins
•Brazoria County: ban on sticks and fins
•Chambers County: ban on sticks and fins
•Colorado County: ban on sticks and fins
•Fort Bend County: ban on sticks and fins
•Galveston County: ban on sticks and fins
•Harris County: ban on sticks and fins
•Liberty County: ban on sticks and fins
•Matagorda County: ban on sticks and fins; short selling season adopted -- July 1 to 4 only
•Montgomery County: all types of fireworks
•Walker County: ban on sticks and fins adopted; disaster declaration anticipated
•Waller County: ban on sticks and fins
•Wharton: ban on sticks and fins; short selling season – June 30 to July 4 only
They need to banned completely. It's just not worth the risk.
