    Moving to Bryan/College Station

Well looks like I'll be relocating the familia to Bryan/College Station (aka The Promise Land). I'm excited to be taking a position with Goodwin-Lasiter, an engineering firm based out of Lufkin which has a local College Station office.

If anyone has any leads on housing that would be great. We have a 7 week old baby girl and a dog. We'll likely be looking for a duplex or house to rent for now (need to sell my San Antonio house). Also, my wife will be looking for a job if anyone knows of a family practice looking to hire a Physician Assistant.

We're excited about the move because we will be closer to family and we've always wanted to move back closer to our "roots" to plant some roots of our own (plus the trip home from Nanza will be quick next year). I'll be leaving behind some good friends here in San Antonio, but I guess such is live. We follow where it leads us...

If anyone has ideas for housing or a job for my lovely wife, please let me know!

    Congrats!

I'm sure Scott and White Clinic will be looking for a PA. They just opened a clinic in south CS. And, they are starting to build a S&W Hospital on Hwy 6 at Rock Prairie.

Housing - Most newer homes are in south College Station. There are a ton of real estate brokers that specialize in leases. In fact, my friend might have a house for you to lease.

She's contact S&W and currently they are not looking for anyone. That may change once they get the new Hospital set up...

Currently we plan on setting up a time to meet with a real estate broker to take a cruise around probably the weekend of July 4th unless we come across something before then. I'm a little concerned with sporting a mortgage and a lease at the same time. Hopefully my SA house sells quickly and/or Jen (the better half) finds a job quickly.

if you can afford it look into the south side historic district, it's expensive but there's some good homes up right now.

best neighborhood in town, old, trees everywhere, great neighbors and it's quiet!
southside is mostly new construction with a huge emphasis on sell'-em-quick type houses for younger families, lots of rent options down there though

good rent options in the district as well, a lot more house for the money. historic district is close to everything and you don't have to fight traffic to get back up to where the restaurants are like you will from southside.

I guess I'm prejudiced, though, I live in the neighborhood and love it.

I remember Finders Keeper now that you mention them. Might have to see what they have to offer.

Since S&W doesn't have any openings right now, she might check with The Med hospital in CS, or St. Joseph hospital in Bryan. Then, there's the private practice doctors. Oh, and don't forget the Physician's Center on University East.

I would probably go with Bill M's wife and tell her up front what you are wanting (and not). There's traffic, students, and scum to deal with...and there's good places that are also available. Get her to show you the latter.
