    Camera? Nikon Coolpix P500

I am looking to get the wife a camera for our first anniversary. She's been wanting one for a while, and thought it would be cool for her to be able to sit in the blind and have something. Want a point and shoot with a couple additional features and a good optical zoom. The Nikon Coolpix P500 was recommended to me, in my price category, and wanted to get y'alls thoughts.

Would like to get her into a 'real' camera some day, but figured this might be a good half-step from a pocket point&shoot.

A friend has one and it is the bomb. You might also look at the Olympus. I think it might be a little easier to operate and it has two image stabilizers for the higher powers. It's a little cheaper too. I have an old Olympus that has been a great camera and absolutely no trouble all these years. It's the same power zoom as the Nikon.

We have the coolpix. Its the best camera weve ever owned hands down. Inlaws also have one and they love theirs as well.
I got it for the new boy... Momma fills up a 4gb card FAST. I had to get a 100 gb external hard drive to clear the sd cards to! Takes awesome video as well.

Best quality pics ive seen without stepping up into the grand price range.
You will be pleasantly suprised with this cam.

            Nikon makes a great camera

I encourage you to research the Panasonic DMC-FZ100K or similar Lumix models as they have Leica glass and take excellent pixels for a point and shoot

Can't go wrong with a Nikon or Olympus IMO.

Thanks all. It's coming up quick, so I'll be shopping in the next week or so.

Im looking at getting the same exact one. A guy i work with has last years model coolpix camera with only 16x zoom and his takes really really great pictures. He took a picture of a buck last year outa his box stand at like 75 yards, printed it out, and it turned out awesome! I was almost sold after that.

I suggest going online and doing some reviews on the model you want. Granted the complainers are the ones that seem to bark the loudest but it can give you some info. That is how I ended up with one of the Panasonics that Cajun mentioned. Got a good deal and it takes great pictures.
