What a miserable way to go....

My buddy went down to his ranch in Graham this weekend and found a dead doe buried up to her stomach in mud. It appears she was drinking from a low stock tank and the mud sucked her in.

Has anyone ever heard of (or seen) a deer get stuck in the mud before?

I managed a ranch north of Freer and had deer with muddy bellys and legs during dry spells but don't remember losing one. Mountain Lions were muddy from drinking also.

Found a couple of gold medal rams stuck like that, but managed to get 'em out before they expired. Still, they were in pretty bad shape when we go to 'em.

I've seen it plenty of times with cattle.

I heard from my brother (so take it with a grain of salt) that someone around Windthorst (who apparently doesn't check their cattle very often) lost 40 head in one tank !
