yo has anyone ever tried to just yell right back at him?

I would never stand there and just take being publicly chewed out like you guys are describing.

I don't know the old man, but have had dealings with Scott & Kevin, in the Houston store. It was a couple of weeks after the fire and Scott took the time to show me around the shop while Kevin set up my wife's new bow. When the cable came off one of the cams a week later, I took a it back and Rick fixed me right up. Kevin was there, as well, and was as nice and helpful as he could be. I knew none of their dad's history, so I judged the service, based strictly on my personal experience. I'd go back to them, without hesitation.

Not to change the over view. He's kinda rough but he's very knowledgeable and helped with me and my wifes bows also the kid glen is 18 and works there is amazing in custom strings and knowledge of how to set up a rig I also shoot league there Tuesday nights tim is involved and smileing the whole time encouraging the beginners and giving tips on how to shoot...Mabey preconceived expectations when you walk into the store makes people have a bad experience.

Since I just moved to the area I was glad to run across Viking Archery the other day exploring the area. I went in today to get some broadheads and arrows and found them to be really friendly. I noticed an older gentleman having lunch at a table in the main area and he asked where I'm from, what I did.... it was Mr. Whiteford. He seemed really nice and helpful about some questions I had. We got to talking and he seemed nice to me...???

Maybe he liked the fact that I was a former Marine also... I did happen to mention that I had recently watched the 4 disc DVD set of Fred Bear, and he said that he hunted with Fred and pointed to a picture with both of them. Pretty cool... He was also friendly with the my 1 year old son that was with me.

It's just 15 miles from the house so I'm glad that I stumbled across it.

I picked out a dozen arrows I wanted and I was expecting to come back but the nice lady behind the counter started cutting and making them right there. Pretty good service...

Maybe I caught him on a good day?

Purchased my EVO 7 from him, seemed to be good with customer service, was helpful heck he even set up the chronograph for me after the setup and sight in.. I live like a 1/4 mile from there so its convenient and the prices are competitive. 699$ bare bow compared to 849$ @ Archery Country and Mesquite.. Shooting 70 Lbs @ 29" 408 gr. 288 fps. I increased the draw a 1/2" but haven't checked the fps again. So far so good

YES! Rick, Kev, and Scott are as good as poeple say. I have seen all 3 grow up since they were around 12 yrs old. (They are in their 50s now).

Rick is the serious one, no Bull just the facts Ma"am type of guy knows his stuff inside and out, has a he*l of an eye for design, (just look at his TD recurve he makes),very respectable, very talented. He is with Brian Langston now at West Houston Archery.

Kev is the mild mannered one, very professional, respectfull, and saavy as well.

Scott, well he is another story on its own. He knows his stuff like Rick and Kev but mild mannered?...yes, unless riled up. He duked it out with Tim his father, up and down the lanes at Viking in Houston. As the story goes Scott was not about to take what Tim was throwing at him (Verbablly)

Tim? it all depends who you will get when you go to his business. Sometimes he can be the most gracious, respectfull individual, and bend over backwards to help you. You will ask yourself: "what are people talking about this man". The next time you go to his business he will have made a turn around COMPLETELY. Not defending his actions at all but I like to talk to him when his medications are not working on him....he is a treasure trove of Archery History, and equipment knowledge. He does not blow up on me as often. I have known Tim going on 50 yrs???

              Lenny?......she is a sweetheart.

Only reason I went there was for Glenn a younger guy with an amazing track record with bows and knowledge on setups and strings! He always helped me out and set up my wife's and my bows. After a year I know he did leave and is out doing his own thing. Tim on the other hand has never said anything negative to me or my wife nor have I seen an outburst, and I shot league there. But I know he does hit the bottle pretty hard around 4-5pm

                  Be careful

Everybody after talking over the phone both with Houston location and canyon lake. Scott claim Kevin is in canyon lake location and they claim Kevin is not there. Kevin took cash for an order (and gave discount for cash). Right now non of them are holding responsibility for orders. Be aware if you order bow and didn't got it. If needed ill give more information via privet messages.

Fred runs The Bow Shop over on Naco-Perrin in San Antonio. Good guy from everything I have seen.

Tim is Tim......surprised he is still around....went to Canyon Lake to put pressure on his old business partner Earle Bateman....Tim is not going to change and why folks still go to his business I'll never know.....His kids might be alright but he still owns the shop and I wouldn't give them the time of day because of it....Why put money into his pocket.....

My experience with the Old Man are similar to others who have dealt with him. However, my experience with Scott was very good; he is both knowledgable and personable. My experience with the Old Man was sufficient to send me all the way to Dayton and Triple Edge Archery than have an experience like that again. Triple Edge has always been real good and helpful and so, as a consequence, I have had no reason to ever return to Viking.

I don't care which location he is at. If I had that experience at any big box store. I would never go to any of them. Why would I waste my time stepping into any Viking Archery? Escorting a 12 yr old boy out of the store?
