    Processed Meat Question

    I have a half of a deer that is cleaned, cubed and frozen in the freezer which needs to go to be processed. If i bring it to the processor they will have to defrost it then process it in sausage, ground meat etc. I am not sure that I am supposed to refreeze meat after it has been defrosted. Can i refreeze the processed meat after and will it still be good to eat if i do so?

        Most beef purchased at the store has been thawed and refrozen 7 times by the time it's purchased. You will be ok.

          Will be fine. FYI If you ever do your own it actually grinds better if it is partially frozen.

                I have had a bunch of meat in the freezer in gallon ziplocks since Dec. I intended to make some sausage and grind some for burger and chilli meat several months ago but one thing after another sidetracked me. Last weekend I got it done. Any indication of freezer burn was trimmed.
                Turned out good and I smoked the extra pork butt Sunday for a bonus

                    As a chef i wouldn't be doing it in my restrant but that's mainly because of health codes, but at home I do it all the time because I'm a hunter I get sidetracked on other projects, the meat does grind smoother if 3/4 frozen it has a smoother grind and texture. Grind away.
