    Big Buck Contest, question?

Ok we are looking at having a big buck contest and I’m trying to figure out how many categories we should have. I was thinking, for just ease, High Fence, Low Fence & one random drawing for the rest of the guys that can’t afford great leases.

Would love to get everyone’s opinions.

We only have low fence but here's how we do ours.

Gross green B&C scoring. Our manager is an approved scorer thru B&C.

$20 total in the pot. $15 for big buck and $5 foe big 8 point. (that's mostly for the kids and culls)

Us bow hunters put in $5 each. Bow kills during bow season don't count in the main contest but killed during "general season" they do. At one time, us bowhunters added $5 for heaviest doe.

I still haven't won the big one yet but did win heaviest doe w/ bow a few years ago and STILL haven't been paid!!

        is this for the site?

        your lease?

        your freinds?

it all depends. if its the site. you are gonna have to do price of lease. high or low fence.

then day/weekend hunts. price of hunt/buck... day hunt/weekend hunt etc.

need more info to give advice.

The one I enter has several....biggest spike (total length in horn added together) then biggest 6pt-10pt. Then most mass, best bow kill, most points, widest and longest turkey beard. Split between high and low fence. Its gotten big enough now that theres a kids, womens, mexico and out of state division as well. 1st place in every division gets a jacket 2nd gets a shirt. Bucks over 140" that dont win also get a jacket

If this is going to be a big "open to the public" contest with entry fees, prizes, etc. you should also have an "open" division like Los Cazadores. You might want to look at their site for ideas...

This would be open to the public. I know Los Cazadores well, we have a shop in their facility.
What we are looking at, seeing as this would be our first year for a contest, we are trying to keep the categories to a minimum. We would probably do a $20 entry and then prizes would consist of an autographed bow from the manufacturer. But here again we are open to suggestions.

How about a public land category?
