My wife has a 2007 VW Passat. We got 82,500 out of the original tires, gets 35 MPG, and has cost us zero dollars in maintenance aside from oil changes and tire rotations. It now has over 90K miles on it and has been problem free. So far it has been a great vehicle. She drives 100 miles round trip per day for work.

We had an '06 Jetta until my wife totalled it. We had zero problems and we were very happy with the car.

Looks like really mixed reviews. I guess you either really loved it or really hated it .

My wife has a Cabrio that she got to drive to Dallas. I think it gets 30 mpg or so. Being a 4 banger, it always sounds like it is about to blow, the seats are uncomfortable and the stereo sucks. But, it is just a car and it gets way better mileage than her F250 Deisel.

She is looking at the Beetle, Golf, and Jetta. All used.
my 02 diesel jetta has 200k and runs great/ have to replace some stuff every 120k, and had the tranny go out at 180k, but it runs great, gets 40mpg, and is well built. get your mechanic to check it out beforehand.

I've never owned one but have heard that they are good crs. I've also heard that maintenance can get kind of pricey.

don't know why the oil change is so expensive. it is very simple, as the oil filter can be changed standing up. the filter cost 12 buck, but otherwise, it is no harder than any other car.
