    Artifact Find Today

Decided to do a little float down the Brazos with family and friends today. There were several of gravel and sand bars exposed due to the river being low. After seeing posts on here from Johnny and others who say these are great locations for arrowheads I knew I had to do a little looking. The first gravel bar turned up alot of good size pieces of flint as well as alot of chips and shards. My wife, found what appears to be the bottom half of a good size point. She grew up hunting points in and around Granbury and can spot an arrowhead faster than anyone I know.
Second gravel bar has alot more sand and finer rock. Again my wife makes the first find. She finds a small round piece that almost looked like a small worn nut. A short time later she finds a second that looked a round bead. I finally came thru and found the small rectangular piece that had a hole drilled in one corner. I found a couple more pieces, one of which I was able to identify as a bead made from clamshell. I cant identify the others and am really interested in identifying the rectangular piece. It almost looks like there are etchings on the piece but I cant tell what they are.
Can anyone offer up any information on these pieces? I used the cap off of a coke bottle to compare size.
All in all, a fun day floating down the river with friends and made even better with the finds!

We are both pretty excited about them! The area is a heavily used part of the river that I'm sure has been "hunted" quite a few times.

Very cool finds. On a side note, did you rent those tubes, or buy them at Academy? We've been thinking about buying some tubes, but I want something that will last.

I don't know about some of those, but those round things with engraving on them are ancient plugs that kept liquids in the plastic canteen.

              Nice find on other stuff.

We bought the tubes at Academy. Thirteen well spent dollars each! They have a mesh bottom in them and ALOT cooler than those awful black rental tubes.

Yea, I was more accustomed to finding the ones that were etched with the letters "Michalob Ultra" on them. We found several of those too LOL!

Whereabouts on the Brazos were y'all floating? Man, I'm a little stumped on the pieces you found...the round bead looking pieces that is. This is a little bit out of my league of expertise so to speak but my guess would be jewelry type beads. Hopefully TBH member Clayton will chime in when he sees this.

Now the piece you are calling the bottom to an arrowhead looks more like a worked flake to me. What does the other side look like? Is this other side worked pretty good or is it all smooth?

Both sides appear to have been worked. The top portion appears to have been broken off smooth with flat surfaces. Not sure how it would have been broken in the inverted V shape but thats the mystery of finding broken points I guess. I would love to find out more about the beads! We were on the river in Parker County a couple of miles upstream from the I20 bridge
