    Computer infected with Google "redirect"?

Hopefully somebody around here knows how to fix this. Something got downloaded on my home computer that causes any Google or Bing search to redirect somewhere else. For example, you do a Google search and the results come up as normal. But when you click on one of the links, you're taken to another website with ads and links to similar topics. The only way I can get where I want to go is type or cut and paste the address in the address bar. Very annoying. I've got several "clean-up" programs that remove malware and such but none have fixed the problem. Any suggestions?

Malwarebytes is a great tool, my brother-in-law's computer was ate up with all kinds of spyware a while back and that knocked it out (found out 800+ bugs ) You might have to run that or any other anti-spyware in safe mode if they aren't working for you. To get to safe mode, just hit F8 before Windows launches and choose the option to boot in safe mode.

                combofix

if you have AVG, you have to remove it first but combofix gets deep down in there...

I would also download rkill from bleeping computer as well and run it first, then combofix.

it is possible that malwarebytes might take it out first, I always run it and the others after combofix.

it is highly advisable that you turn off system restore as the bug has probably created a restore point for itself to respawn....

Do you turn off system restore in safe mode, or before you restart?

Not good John. Only thing I found that got rid of it on my wife's computer was Hitman Pro. Download it from Cnet.com

She got the virus or whatever it is from Facebook.

you want to do that before you run whatever cleaner....that could be in normal or safe mode....kind of all depends on what the computer will let you do....some of these are so bleeping smart, they won't let you do much and then it is a game of wills...

had one the other day that hid all the files on the computer, my computer showed nothing, it also removed all permissions from all users, it went into the registry and removed permissions from keys....it was a real booger....took me a while to get rid of it and undo what it did....the guys that make these things are pretty ingenious....most of them are not after much, just to cause grief

Spybot is another good tool to consider.

I had two computers infected and was able to clean one of them with Spybot. The other I never got cleaned up and finally just formatted it and reinstalled the OS.

Since then I've been running Norton 360 and have had no more malware installs. I know a lot of people don't like Norton but I've had good luck for over a year now with it.

I would have had to go get a new competer, that made me dizzy reading it

I would love to meet one of these guys and ask them why they think it is so awesome to mess with people.
