What is with used campers without title?

I've been looking around for a used camper to use for hunting trips and an occasional family camping trip. It seems as if 50% or more of campers on craigslist don't have a title. I just don't want to take a chance on a camper having an unsatisfied lien. I called the county tax office with a vin and was told they can't release that info if I don't have a dealers license.

I've been looking around for one too and continue to run into the same problem. Almost every assures me that everything is ok but I just don't know if the risk is worth it.

When I was looking for one, I saw this all the time. I would just move on to the next one. I want the title in hand before I give them the money.

If they tell you it isn't a problem then they should be willing to go with you and pay to get a lost title so they can transfer. Once it is transferred then I would give them the cash.

Yea, they will lie to you about other things to, as in the REAL condition of the trailer. If they can't give good solid answers to your questions or act a little antsy, don't walk, run away! Make sure it is hooked up and EVERYTHING is working as it should. If they act like that is asking to much, leave!

I would guess stolen or they owe money on it and a creditor has the title

I would not buy one without a title, too much of a headache even if it is legit

There are a lot of the FEMA trailers rolling around right now out there for sale. Specially if your looking cheap. They have auctions for them all the time over in LA, and they sell for like a thousand dollars a piece. People then turn around and list them over here for like 3K for a "newer trailer" Beware of these trailers.

Spend a little more money on one and make sure its not a FEMA trailer.

I know of a good looking trailer for sale that has title. It is a 99 Montana by Keystone 36' fifth wheel with three slide outs if you are interested.

Yep. A camper with a title is worth way more than one without. And this goes for a boat as well.

I think most people just misplace them or they change hands too casually and people don't bother with getting them.

If you are looking to actually travel with a trailer, I wouldn't suggest the cheaper of the FEMA trailers you see on the side of the road or at auctions... those are bunk house trailers ..and are not light and do not travel well.. FIL got one last year.. it's PERFECT for the deer lease - but not recommended if you plan on travelling around with it...

That is way way more than I'm looking for but thanks anyway!

txjourneyman.. not sure if PPL has a place in Dallas... but they have a ton of trailers (all sizes/shapes/models/prices).. we actually used them as a showroom for us to see what we really wanted... (ended up buying at Holiday World in katy, but the info we got from doing all the walk-throughs at PPL was valuable.. (no pressure..they hand you a map and you go out on your own..all the trailers are open.)
