Slug gun or Muzzleloader for deer?

I have a chance to go on a firearm hunt in Illinois this year so I am trying to decide which would be better, slug gun or muzzleloader? What kind of accuracy and range do the new slug guns produce?

Muzzleloader is far supperior to a shotgun!!!! Im not sure on the regulations on the muzzleloader up their but if you can use optics its pretty much no differnt than a rifle. Slug guns are pretty acurate but not so much at longe range.

I think ml's have a longer range and the slug gun that I have shot (single shot) kicked like a mule.

I can make 200 yard shots pretty easily with my smoke pole. It takes practice but if you get the right set up, learn the ballistics your golden..

i was thinking about buying a slug gun earlier this year. Three different gun guys (salesmen and smiths) talked me out of it. They all said the slug guns are only for psycho masochists. They all said they do too much shoulder damage.

I would go with the ML. Better range and way cool with the smoke.

Yeah, ML all the way. I have shot deer with my CVA at 275yds and more. 250gr Sabot, 3-Trip7pellets and a Nikon Omega BDC scope.

Savage Model 220 Slug gun. You'll thank me for this piece of advice.
Most accurate factory slug gun EVER built.

I would go shot gun also. Hell most of the time while bowhunting you are 30 yards or closer. 100 yrds is plenty. And a lot cooler than a ML. Quick follow up shot also.

                        This^^^

The newer slugs, especially the sabot slugs are very accurate and have great ballistics. Not to mention, you don't have to worry about your powder getting wet, whether or not you forgot your primers, discharging your gun after the hunt and trying to look through the smoke to see if you've hit what you were shooting at.

A smoke pole is way more old school than a slug gun. Nothing against the sluggers but their is just something about seeing the smoke makes me smile and makes me feel all warm and bubbly

I like the ML. Just something about only having one shot and the enjoyment of putting it to good use....lol.

A shotgun unless you just want to say that you killed a deer with a muzzleloader.

The scatter gun is more than accurate enough and can mount a scope just like a muzzleloader, it is much easier to load, much faster to load and not nearly as much worry about tweaking the gun by different loads and slugs.
