    help registering vehicle

My truck registration is out of date and i need to get it registered. Problem is the office closes at 5 and is not open on saturdays. Well i work till 5 everyday, 30 minutes from the county i live in. Tried to register it in the county i work in, but apparently ya can't do that. You can register it online but not if it is expired. How convenient. I'm sure the officer will be SO understanding of my predicament when i get pulled over. Ideas? Can my wife register it for me? I tend to think not since you have to show ID.

Anybody can go get the registration for you. All they will need is the money, a copy of the registration, and your proof of insurance.

Your wife should have no problem doing it. Her name is on the registration, right? Give the office a call and they will tell you if she can or can't.

Her name is on the insurance card. Will that work? Vehicle is registered to me.

Yes, that will work. My wife did mine in VZ county this morning.

I run into an issue every year registering mine.

My dad died 10 years ago, left me the truck, but I never transferred the title into my name (heck they want taxes on blue book value so why do it) every time I attempt to register it they say "We can not do 3rd party transactions" and I wind up having my mom run to the title office for me.

The truck is insured in my name, but the address on the registration differs from that on my license.

They never give my mom any grief though, the address on her license matches what's on the registration.

went through something similar with my Father's truck, it was never transferred into my Mother's name when everything was said and done with the will and whatnot...except I did not know that till after my Mother passed away and I was left with a truck that I could insure and register, just never sell...yeah....

you might be in a better seat since your mother would technically retain ownership if there was no will or it was left out of the will....most likely everything was papered to her anyway, then it is just a matter of her going through the motions of transferring the title to you....call your local tax office, they 'should' be able to give you the correct information....otherwise, there are plenty title shops out there that specialize in this type of stuff...

I get my sister to do it every year! since she works next door to them! They do not give the auditor any problems!

They will also need a letter of authorization from you. I sent an employee to the tax office last week for a trailer registration with (I thought) all the stuff and he had to come back and get a letter.

Register online if possible, the online fee usually outweighs the cost of gas getting there and back.

i have never had a problem getting anything registered by someone else. as long as they have the slip mailed to me and proof of insurance.

You and your mom should fill out the paperwork for the title transfer, and list it as a gift from parent to child. You will pay a small fee, but you will not be subject to taxation on the value of the truck. You both have to sign the form in front of a notary, but that's about all there is to it.
