    Swallows Swallows Swallows!!

At my work we have a bad swallow problem. They are trying to make nest under our front door entry. We have a front porch cover made of all exposed cedar. We you go outside they are everywhere and deficate on everything. How do we keep them from making nest on this porch?

I had them building a nest in my front porch last year and got tired of them dive bombing me and the kids everytime we would step out. Not to mention the CRAP all over the place. So what I did this year is waited for them to start building a nest and get almost done with it and I would knock it down hehehe. This happened three times this year they would get close to done and I would knock it down. The third time they got the hint and haven't seen them in a while

I've heard you can use a water hose and blast the nest. I've also heard that right at dark you can blast them with the water hose as well. Supposedly this will cause them to fall to the ground where something bad can happen to them. At least that's what I've been told.

same problem here at work, but once they start nesting we cant bother them.according to the tree huggers it is against the law to disturb them

If you spray "Off" on the area that they are making the nest they will leave and not come back. The dont like the smell.

You can install the little pigeon spikes to keep them from finding the porch as a suitable spot. You can also board up the awning, so there's no lip. IMO a better option than screwing them up while on nest.

I knocked a nest down from the back porch first part of Spring. When they rebuilt it in less than a week and had eggs laid, I decided to let them alone. I would just spray the poop off with the hose. They're now grown and I'm sure they'll be back next year. They eat a ton of mosquitoes I've heard.

The bad thing is that they are building on the side of the exposed beams all up and down it. I will try "OFF" and see if that works.
Someone also told me to try wasp spray. I think that will work good beacuse it will spray a long ways out.
                Thanks guys

I hung a blank CD on a string at my back porch. Shiny and moves around. They haven't been back yet.

They got in our boathouse and built a nest above the boat and hatched babies- have now cr__ped all in the boat. Huge mess. Stinks too.

They nest on my front and back porch and patio and I like 'em. I've even installed flashing on my support posts so the cats can't climb up and get to them. As long as they are around I don't have any mosquitos. To have zero mosquitos I'll put up with hosing off a little bird dung every week.

Reminds me of a joke about a dove being the bird of love...........

Alas, this is a family forum and I can't tell the whole joke.

I was thinking the same thing... But mine starts off with storks bringing pretty babies...

More of a toast than a joke.
