    Water system trough's

I am thinking about putting a water system on my lease. My question is what is the best kind of trought to use. I have the option to put a 75 gallon metal water trough, a 5 gallon bucket or a plastic tub about 24 in diameter. I am going to use a 300 gallon tote to keep it full.

Out of the troughs which one will last the longest? The metal trough holds the most water but it is also going to have the most evaporation. The 5 gallon bucket sunk into the ground could be good.

    Would the 370 gallons" 70 gal trough+tote" last longer than "305 gallon bucket+tote" ?

    Thanks for your help.

Tractor supply has a 5 gal. horse watering trough ($25.00) with a built in float. Bury it in the ground up to the flange, Screw a garden hose to it from your bigger tank and your ready to go. Very little evaporation, we have had about 30 of these in use for 10 years and they are great.

I use a small water trough because of the reduced evaporation rate. I don't get to the lease very often so I need to stretch the water in the tank as long as I can.

I would definitely go with the smaller trough regardless of what size water tank.
