I've hunted just east of Lueders the last three years in southeast Jones County. Numbers are pretty good. Not Hill Country numbers, but plenty of deer. If they get to live long enough, antler potential is good.
This was the biggest buck we had last year. I never got a shot at him. I killed the cull 7-point in my avatar. I saw this big 11 a couple of times, but he was either way off or across the fence everytime I saw him.
I have a couple years of trailcam pics here if you care to look through them: http://shanejennings.smugmug.com/Trailcam-Pics
Some decent bucks of every age where we were. Nobody in the area was killing young bucks, and that's the key.

I'll be hunting in Nugent this year. I have made a couple of trips in the past but not hunted the place full time. Good numbers of deer, a few hogs and turkeys. The landowner has taken several nice bucks over the past few years. Sorry, no pics. Next time I'm out there I'll have some trail cam pics.

An area described as between Anson Lueders and Abilene is a very large area.
I can tell you this - I live in the area described, and have lived here all my life.
Some spots in the area can and do produce, and hold some very nice deer.
In other spots in the area there aren't any deer at all. You can be on one property that you see deer regularly, and go a mile in any direction, and be on a property where there are none.
The corridor straight up hwy 277 between Abilene and Anson has started producing some deer in the last several years, but really just now to a point where they are being regularly seen, and some of this country is about as thick of a jungle as you'll ever want to deal with.
There are lots of turkey in the over all area, but there again, they will be in some spot, and not in others.
Hogs about the same as above.
My best advices to you are these -
Don't lease a property here sight unseen.
Also, keep in mind when looking at a property - if it is in the area/areas we call the "shinery" (scrub oaks, and sand) it will be very difficult to find deer sign even if they are there, so try to do your scouting when the ground is wet.
Permanent surface water is something you want to see on a property you lease here, or at least there be surface water nearby.
Good luck
Rick
