I hate to tell ya'll this but you guys are going to have one cold !@# winter. That deer wouldn't be storing all that fat if it knew it was going to be 90 until Jan. I hope you have your snow shovels!

I've seen a few protien fed bucks in Mverick Co like that. It is impressive to see the first time.
D-Mo, I always "heard" you didn't want fat left on your wild game and the flavor was "bad" and not like beef. ???

Seems like I've heard similar Joe, but I don't know. Seems like "acorn fat", might be a little different tasting than "protein fat", if that makes any sense.

Killed several that fat around here. And to answer you question Dale, NO - the fat on whitetail/axis does not add a good flavor IMO, at least not like fat adds to beef flavor. We don't feed protein, so all the fat deer I have killed have been cornfed or naturally tubby.

I think he's been eating the coons that have been eating your corn, lol.

Never seen that much fat on a Texas deer and especially this time of the year.

I was just as amazed as you guys when I skinned him.

For those that asked this is a South Texas deer and it is low fenced property.

I am ready to see what the next one looks like! They are few an far inbetween with all the acorns though.
