    Termite problem/question

I have slowly been working on my deck. Replacing handrails, deck boards, and working on the stairs. Yesterday I removed the stairs and I found 2 2x4s that were laying on the dirt underneath the stairs that had termites. They were active. I saw them. They had eaten about ¼” into the bottom side of the boards. These boards have been there since before I bought the house in ’99 and most likely since the house was built in '85. I am assuming they recently found the wood or it would have been eaten by now. I did not see any other damage in the area. This is a pier and beam house.

I removed the boards and put them on the street for the trash man today. I bought $40 worth of Orkin termite poison and put it all over the area.

What else should I do? Should I call out a professional?

I have a product at home that you trench around your house and pour and them cover it. Gotta be careful as it's bad stuff. I just bought a new house and about to do it to the new house

I have railroad ties all around the flower beds. Is it possible these are hurting me?

the ties are soaked in Creosote shouldn't be a problem

Terry is coming out on Friday at 9. They asked me who referred me, and I didn't know. I said I think they work there because you said "we".

              Thanks

I would highly recommend you ask them to treat with Termidor if you decide to have it professionally treated. That stuff works and continues to work for over 10 years in many cases.

i am in the middle of doing a termite treatment right now with termidor sc, the same product the pro's use. bought it online $244 for enough for my house, sprayer and drill bit and a few odds and ends puts me somewhere between 300-350 and 2 afternoons hot and heavy on it. or one Saturday if i could ever get off work. pest control guy wanted 700 plus tax and 70/year after that, i plan to do a diy post on the whole project, if interested check out www.domyownpestcontrol.com or pm me and i can tell you what i know.

I thought about doing it myself, but I am not sure what to do with a pier and beam house. I am assuming that there will be a trench dug around the perimeter, but I also think the under side of the house and ground needs to be treated.

I had my old house treated about 7 years ago and I paid $1100.

                      Reminder...

When you treat them they can move to the next untreated place ie garage, neighbors, fence so you might want to give your neighbors (if applicable) a heads up. Our house was treated a while ago and they went to the neighbors shed. He treated and they moved to our garage. so we had to treat the garage soon after. Jason Slocum

I had to have my house retreated for 2 years after foundation treatment. They then installed the termite bait stations every 10 feet around the house. The tech told me not only will it kill all the termites it will also take care of my neighbors termites. After he installed the cylinders around the house I Googled (termite bait stations) and found them online. All you need is a small motorized hand auger and your good to go.

I did my own and we are in a pier and beam house also. You will have to trench around every pier and pour poison around each one. If not they wiull just find another location to enter the house. I had to belly crawl under the whole house and did 26 piers, AND we had to do around the entire house. With a couple friends we did it in a day.
                          Good luck!

That sound more expensive to have professionally done than a slab foundation .
