go to your local shop and have them cut them - since they have already been cut and I am guessing the inserts have already been put in they will have to cut off the back - so you will need to refletch as well.

Check the length of the inserts, but if you're cutting off 1" or longer, you may be able to just cut 'behind' the insert and glue-in new ones, and save your fletching. I'd have them cut at an archery shop, if you buy the new inserts and some other goodies I'd be surprised if they charged you, but then it's only a few $. Doing it yourself is a recipe for disaster getting perfect 90 degree cuts.

You heat up your cabon shafts? I heard that that can cause structural damage to the carbon and increase the chance of shaft failure.

I've removed inserts hot glued in carbon shafts by putting a field point into the insert, and gently heating the tip of the field point while holding it in a pair of needle nose pliers. As soon as it warms up and starts to twist, pull it out quickly. I was told that's far under the temp where you cause carbon arrows to fail.

NEVER, EVER soak the end of carbon arrows in acetone to remove old bases and glue from fletching, however. THAT will make them fail (1st hand experience, learn from my mistake).

I use an Apple cut off saw for mine. If you are cutting off enough to clear the old insert, you should be good. I would let an archer shop do it though.
