    Handgun Help

I am looking to buy a personal defense / hunting sidearm handgun. I know NOTHING about pistols and need some advice. My main concern is a good gun that I can kill a bad guy with but I also want to carry it on my bear and hog hunts. Advice???

Nothing less than a 40, preferably a 45. Lots of options on brands and models, best to shop around and find one that feels best in hand.

I agree on the .40 or .45. I like the 1911. I have smaller hands so the Glock feels like a brick in my hand.

I like the 1911 myself, but this can be a dangerous gun in the hands of somebody who lacks experience in Single Action Automatics. If you are dead set on a 1911, get a Kimber "your Choice" of which one, they all look dern good in my opinion. For the purpose you mention, IMO I would get something along the lines of a S&W Model 25 in 45. Long Colt. Powerful enough for the bad guy, and a Bear!!

Six shooters are more user friendly, less chance of an accidental discharge, and accurate. Good luck on your search.

              G20 for the bear/hog
              G19 for the "bad guy"

no offense, but the 1911 family isnt for a beginner.

Remember...you want to stop the threat...not kill the bad guy

I carry a XD sub compact in 9mm and a NAA .22 Mag minirevolver....my next buy will be a Glock in 10mm.

Shop around, handle different models, and if possible shoot them until you find what just feels right in your hands. Any caliber will do the trick

                      X's 2. I like my G27 .40. I also carry a SA 1911 but as stated above, its a lot of gun.

The Glock of your choice in 9mm, .40S&W or .45ACP.

                        Full size, compact or subcompact.

Nothing smaller than a 40. And I prefer HK's they just fit better, imo.
