what to do with grampa's old truck?

My 96 year old grandfather recently had his driver license taken away and he has decided to let my brother and I have his truck. We have been talking about it for years and have thought about doing a complete rebuild with all new everything. After a while though it seemed that by doing this it wouldnt be "his" truck anymore. It would just be a fancy old truck,

The picture is of him recently going to the feed store in it, so you get the idea what the current condition is. It's a 1972 Chevy c-10 Long Wheel Base with a Step Side. As far as I can tell, there were not many made like this one. We are now thinking about just leaving it like it is and not changing a thing. He owned a lumber yard and used this truck to deliver lumber all over south texas. We might get someone to paint his logo on the side for character.

I just thought I might get some input as to other ideas.

I think it'll depend on what you're planning on doing with it in the long run. If you think you might ever sell it, leave it as is. If you're going to keep it, I'd take it back to original condition with as close to original/OEM parts as possible.

I would have his lumber company name and logo put on the doors and leave it like it is.

Lot of class in that ride.

Crappy pic but as bad as that rust looks it will eventually go through the metal....

Frame is in better shape than the rest of the body.

I would restore it. Start at the front bumper and work to the back bumper. Try and use all OEM parts and paint it the same color. That is if you plan on keeping it in the family and not selling it. I am afraid if you leave the way it is the rust will eat it in no time and then you wont have the vehicle.

i think i would restore it and have his logo painted on the doors when you redo it. i have a 65 that was my grandfathers. i am restoring it, but painting it a custom color and having his initals painted into it somewhere.

Restore it to a point that it does not further deteriorate. If you put the logo on it, which i would, make sure it is a weathered design.

facing the same decision point, sell or restore, with my grandfathers 68 Chevrolet. bank account says sell, sentiment says restore.
