    Wal-Mart. Not Wal-Marts.

Like Tubby, I've done a bunch of work in Freestone County, in and around Teague and other places. Most of the folks I've talked to down there pronounce it Tig, for whatever that's worth.

      One other:

Day Ree Kween = Texas stop sign

I'm glad you told me. I've fished on it for 50+ years and every body I've ever heard has pronounced it Pert na les. I mean, every body but the new comers.

"WallyWorld" is an alternate, or "The Chinese bazaar" if you want to get technical.

Prostate not ProstRate. There is no R after the T.

              Elgin is not El Gin.
I have also been corrected that Miami, TX is pronounced Myamuh and not like the city in FL.

Here's a first name that threw me a curve ball. Xavier pronounced as Javier not EX Ay Vi Er.

                  HubCityThumper stole my thunder on:
                  La-Me-sa instead of La Mesa.
(Got to meet Max Stalling one time after a show, he found out I was raised there and asked for sure how to pronounce it, I told him La-ME-sa and he said "Oh, I was writing a song with it in there and I thought it was La Mesa." I never heard the song, I guess I screwed up his rhyme and he had to ditch it!)

                  There's also the old:
                  Pay-cuss instead of Pay-coos (Pecos)
                  Lo-Wake-ee instead of Lo Wake
                  New-Aces river...

                  Man, there's a bunch.
We aughta start several threads from other states and get locals opinions, not only for Louisiana but some of the Native names in Oklahoma have always given me fits!

Although I do like saying it that way.
