      This thread is great. :-)

Being a transplanted Yankee I had to put a similar pronunciation guide together for my family and I.

      For example:

      Pecan
      Yankee: Pea Can(ryhmes with Ran)
Texan: Pa Kahn. A pea can is something you take with you in the deer stand...

      Tournament
      Yankee: Toor na ment
      Texan: Ter ni mint

To throw something in the trash
      Yankee: Chuck it
      Texan: Chunk it

      BBQ
Yankee: a verb, something you do. the cooking of meat on a gas or charcoal grill. Example - I'm going to BBQ some burgers and hotdogs for dinner tonight.
Texan: a noun, a type of food (like chinese food, italian, mexican, etc..)

      Yankee
Yankee: The most famous baseball team in the history of the sport or what people from Europe and Australia call Americans.
Texan: anyone from anywhere north of the Red River. LOL

      Gun
Yankee: Dangerous, should be highly regulated, not a right to own but a privilege.
Texan: a constitutional right that should never be infringed upon.

Man I love this state. As the saying goes, I'm not a native Texan but I got here as fast as I can.

      Sorry for the thread hijack.

              Clute- ka loot

'ol tale is that an Indian stopped off by Oyster creek to take a poop and when it hit the water, it made a "ka loot" sound.... Hence the name of the town!!!!

                  That is my hometown!

The proper pronunciation is to say Cooper like you would say cooker. 'cept replace the k w/ a p.

Them's fightin words right there. I live just north of Dallas and I danged sure aint no Yankee. That northern border is called the red river. Get your geography right. And for the record, most folks in Dallas are imports and we'd be just as content for them to go right back where they came from.

Karnes City - when we were little we thought it was corn city. We would go see Paw paw at his farm in "corn city". My cousin still pronounces it this way.
