    Slowpitch softball: Shaved Bats

Got word this morning that a man was life flighted due to being hit in the eye from a ball hit off of a shaved bat. The man was pitching when the ball was hit up the middle and struck him in his eye socket resulting in his socket being crushed.

This was during a co-ed softball game. What kind of fool has to shave a bat to compete against women? Sorry, I'm just a little ticked off.

Go search craigslist....you'll find numerous bat shavers/rollers.

Also if it was an outlaw league then it's legal the last time I checked but I wouldn't recommend it in co-ed games.

I also hope the best for the injured player!

I'd still have to agree with you on not using a shaved bat during a co-ed game. I used to have a shaved bat (Ultra) but got rid of it due to the liability. I do just fine with my Freak...even though it's seen better days.

cheaters abound and its a shame they continually get by with it,,, my son played in a benefit church co -ed tournament last saturday.. supposed to be church teams... naturally the team that won it wasnt a church team,,,,no trophies or anything cheating just the same....

This is why I quit . The last 2 years I played I was on 2 different teams ranked number 1 in world and state in E . Players won't play up like there supposed to. Teams are sponsored . Guys stealling bats and selling them ad no- return bats. I have played it all seen it all.

Does anyone know what happens to a person that uses an illegal, shaved, bat and hurts someone?

Most will do the coward way. Not admit it or who's it is and take a temp band. U admit it and it's yours you could be looking at a min of 1 year to life band in that sanct.

Freak not good in ASA, but still good in USSSA.

So are you saying that the only reason his eye socked was crushed was because the bat was shaved?

To some folks it's all about winning at any cost, whether softball, 9-ball, baseball, football, little league or co-ed softball. Dang the danger to themselves or others, "It's all about ME."

Even trickles over into hunting too, whether bow hunting or gun hunting, and fishing--guess you might say all walks of life.
