Screeching red fox...

I was sitting in my house with the window open tonight and heard a God awful sound that I figured HAD to be some kind of owl or hawk. I searched the internet up and down and finally found the sound.

I have seen foxes in my yard before but I never knew they could sound like THAT!

That was disturbing to me!!!! Not sure why but that freaked me out and made the hair on my neck stand straight up!

My cat didn't like it much either.

About 4 yrs ago my buddy and I heard this exact same sound right after he shot a doe. But it made the sound longer than that and it was CREEPY!

I have heard 5 or 6 of them at one time making this noise at each other.....I think it may be something to do with breeding, because this is the time of year I normally hear them......

When we first got one of our dogs and he was a puppy, my mom and dad were in the backyard and takin the dog out for a potty break in the evening andck a fox was on a rock wall/barrier and did this noise at my parents and the pup for 2 minutes before ny dad ran it off

Grays sound very similar, too. Wonder how many barks from red or gray foxes have been credited to the scream of a mountain lion?

I've heard grays do it numerous times when predator calling at night and they get down wind from me. Probably territorial or a warning to their buds.

Funny you bring this up. I saw a red fox for the very first time this morning. I dove up on location and he ran off. He stopped at the edge of the pad sat down and watched me for a while.
