    Is iPad worth the $$?

My wife asked me for a Kindle a couple of months back. When I looked at it, it looked like a kids toy version of the iPad, but only in Black and white. Something that will be laughed at in about 2 years technology time. Then I come to find out that iPad has even been surpassed by the iPad2. And that there is a product call the Nook Color out there that reminds me of a large iTouch. Where is the best bang for the hard earned American dollar?

She needs it for reading and surfing the internet while in wifi hotspots. No need for cell phone coverage.

you can download the Amazon Kindle App for Ipad and get the best of both worlds.
I'm not sure you can surf with the kindle though

Both the Kindle and the Nook come in color versions that are wifi and 3G enabled. You will need the 3G version to web surf with either model, and it will work any place a smart phone will work. If you are considering the Nook, look at barnes and nobles web site, and they have certified pre owned units for sale cheaper than new, and they still carry some version of a warranty.

I am fairly sure any of the Apple products require a separate data package plan be purchased on a monthly basis for browsing and all, and i am still unclear if that is the case with the Kindle or Nook. The color 3G versions both have touch screen, so that is a wash, and the browser on the nook is ok. not great but not horrible either. Both are in the $250 range, and Amazon is having a Mother's day sale on the Kindle right now that includes an additional $25 Amazon gift card.

B&N has over 1 million titles available for free download, and another 1 million+ for purchase. I have no idea about Amazon, since I am leaning towards the Nook and not the Kindle.

Apple products have never impressed me for anything other that a time wasting toy platform, that is overpriced. But that is just me!

Kindle is the best for reading due to the non glare screen, but you cannot surf on it. If she wants that capability, Ipad hands down.

Ipad is worth it. I didn't think so until I had one. I use my home PC less and this has saved energy having it on. I browse and watch TV at the same time. Watch youtube videos and look over forums. Additionally, I purchased the SD card adapter combo and use the device to take pictures off all my game cameras. I then can erase the SD card and put it back in. I have used it with 3G coverage at the lease too.

The Ipad is also a great media player for songs, tv shows, movies and with a netflix account you can watch instand que movies. There other things you can do. I have a mobileme account where I store all sorts of picturs and files I need to look at while on the run. The weather channel is a nice app to use as well. I'm always looking at that thing. Well worth the money. Tons of apps and games to play with .

I ordered my wife one. She likes it fine. I'll stick with my laptop just because I don't like trying to type with one hand and hold the dang thing with the other. Now as for the difference in the Kindle and the iPad............totally different realm. The iPad wins that fight hands down.............even for the money. You just get so much more utility out of the iPad.

What is the difference between an iPad with WIFI and one with WIFI+3G?

Also, is there really a difference between the 16GB one and the 32GB version?

                      Great idea for Mother's day!

Where is the best place to get the Ipad?

not meant to highjack but I could score some major points here! My wife has been wanting one and I have been putting it off till a special occassion. I am thinking of just getting the Wifi version?

oh...3G means that you have to pay (monthly subscription) for data downloads off of cell towers. GOTCHA.
