    Multiple Projects

How many people get in trouble with their wifes because of trying to work on multiple projects at once and never get any of them done. I have at the moment many projects I am SUPPOSE to be working on.

1.I am residing the house. Got 2 sides done and 1 started. 1 side is brick so nothing to do there.
    2. I am also working on the boat. Gotta replace some of the floor, finally got the motor running right.
    3. Also have to weld some spots on the trailer.
    4. I have an incomplete fence. Got everything done but the gate now though.
    5. I have a subfloor that is built that I am suppose to deck out and put next to our patio in the back yard.
    6. Got some baseboards in the house that I replaced and need to caulk and paint.
    7. Picked up a bunch of pallets to make a gun cabinet. Copying a thread I saw on here a while back.
    8. Got a trailer from a guy on here to build a BBQ pit on. Got most of the metal but with all the other projects going haven't had time to finish any of them.

Who else has a list of incomplete things they are doing?

I used to be REALLY bad about that. My wife didn't complain much but it started driving me crazy. Several years ago I started making a concerted effort to tackle projects one at a time. I have a projects file, divided into major projects and minor projects. Each entry has a list of materials needed and sketches/design ideas. I now really try to stay focused on that one thing till it's done. It's impossible to stick to the "one project philosophy" 100% of the time, but I do think it is making me work more efficiently and complete projects faster.

EDIT: I do catch some flack for projects promised but never started

Oh man I don't know where to start! It wouldn't be so bad if the projects were my idea!

What is this wife thing of which you speak?

I think your problem is you are too handy.

My wife calls me Mr. 99 % because I leave projects undone. I tried to tell her that the Navajos would always leave a thread loose in a blanket or an imperfection in their craft work so it could breath but she wasn't buying it.

Has she threatened to call the handyman to finish all of your projects yet? That is her next step.

If I dont have multiples gioing there isnt enough pressure to finish any of them.

I hear you. I am building our house from scratch. Need to trench to run water line. Upstairs ceiling. Drywall. A couple more electrical circuits. Dress up cables. Indoor plumbing. A couple non-bearing walls to frame. Dig for septic tank and lateral lines. Trim work inside/outside. Wrap around porch. Diagnose jeep no start. Diagnose tractor no start. Green slime in daughter's bicycle. Get other house in shape to put on market. It shouldn't be a big problem since I only work 44 hours a week and only spend 10 hours a week driving. Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into pity party. Just remember what Red Green always says, If the women don't find you handsome, at least they'll find you handy.

i'm somewhat curious why you have all of these things started but none finished. i'm very specific about things so lists drive me nuts but can you imagine the relief once you are able to cross one or two of those things off your list? you already have the list laid on in this thread - get to work on number one til you finish it, then on to number two. your wife will be appreciative of the progress if she sees you finishing some of the things...

I get calls from fed up wives to finish different projects fairly often. Keep it up guys, that's my extra money for hunting trips!

                            * I do charge extra if the husband that started the project is an 'engineer' of some sort, that usually means it's screwed up in a whole new and different way, rather than just abandoned.

Different personalities is all I can tell you. I am kinda big picture when it comes to projects sometimes. Once I can see what the final result will be, I lose interest

On the other hand I do not let many things drive me nuts. I can leave a pen on my desk that is not in the right place and go home and forget about it.
I wish I was more of a grinder sometimes though.
