I am about to begin my hunters education section of an outdoor adventures class that I teach in my school. Many of my students do not come from a hunting background and have a very limited exposure to the outdoors. This year I thought I would start the unit with a lesson on why we hunt. Feel free to input your thoughts on why you hunt so I can share with my class to help clear up some misconceptions that society has towards hunters and hunting.

I Hunt because it was programmed into my DNA....Nobody in my family has ever Hunted or ever wanted to...I guess I am just Different,I played Sports all my Life to appease my Parents and Grandparents but from about 10 yrs old I have always had a Burning Desire to Hunt...So at 14 I started researching and reading about Bowhunting and Hunting in General and Eventually with enuff trips to the LBJ Grasslands I was able to learn a little and managed to get on a lease at 17 and have been Hunting Every Second since...Took my first deer on Public Land at the age of 16 in Palastine,Tx on a solo trip.

To be as close to wildlife as I can be. To try and blend into their surroundings and not be noticed. To watch squirrel, raccoon, deer, fox, coyote, birds, armadillo, hogs, bobcat at the closest finest vantage point. Once I watched a spider spin a web about 2 feet from me. Bowhunting is my way of seeing a part of the world that most people never experience. And in the moments of watching and learning, I may take a mature buck, or a doe or pig for meat and management of the land. All part of the circle of life.

Time with family/friends, food, pure enjoyment.
I enjoy hunting trophy whitetail because most of the time it gets the best out of me.
Sound crazy but I'm pretty hard headed. The kill always dies, but the hunt lives forever. I've spent a lot of hours from October through December sitting and waiting for a 160+. Have I ever shot one? NO
I haven't even shot a buck with my bow yet! Which is my own personal choice/fault I've made over the last five years I've bow hunted. The opportunity for great deer have been in my lap. But I had a blast hunting and calling in the deer. That's another aspect I really enjoy about hunting. Rattling in a buck that bows up to a decoy and circles it a few times is probably one of the coolest things.
Let me sum it up for you.

Personal goals
to get protein to make me grow up big and strong. That's what you can tell the kids.

We hunt because we are the ultimate predator, it is in our blood to hunt and to live off the land (passed down from our ancestors from long ago). Hunting is the ultimate challenge, to be taken out of our comfort zone and be put to the test against the prey in his own territory. The enjoyment and fulfillment we get from hunting is something that cannot be put into words and is only understood by a true outdoorsman!

I was brought up hunting and there is nothing else I would rather do. I thank my dad and grandpa for that. I guess I hunt because it was programed into me early on and I have had the fire my whole life. All my free time is spent looking at hunting stuff, new studies, or thinking about upcoming trips. It's a disease and I got it BAD!

To spend time with nature and just enjoy the beauty and peacefulness. Get away from the city.
Share time with dad.
Main reason, if I didnt, then I could not complain about how much the lease cost, rules, high gas prices, protein, and skyrocketing corn prices. Then there would be no need for this forum.
I dont hunt to put food on the table becasue I could buy a lot of beef for what I spend.
Being in nature...priceless!!!
