They have opened the gates to all the gated ranches that they could get to.

Smoke inhalation gets all of us - including our four leg friends.

One would hope that the land owners would just cut the fences, including any high game fences.

7 counties not affected by fire. Lets do the math: 254 counties in Texas. That would mean that 237 counties had some portion that was on fire. That's 93.31% of the state being affected. No offense but most people say things with out thinking about what they are saying.

click on the link, or copy and paste and this will give you a good representation of where the fires are. Looks like about 28 counties, or 11% of the State. That is incredible to say the least, but for someone to say that there are only 7 counties unaffected is incorrect. Of course I am trusting something put online from TAMU. Take with a grain of salt. WRECK'EM TECH!

Wildcat Ranch between San Angelo and Robert Lee, (high fence) they didn't have time to open the gates or cut the fence and several animals perished. It's been reported in this area (low fence) there are numerous deer and livestock perished as well. Most of these fires advance at a rate of 6-8 miles per hour on average. Yes, they can travel faster than that speed but for how long? And if they were traveling downwind, breathing nothing but the thick smoke didn't take them long to parish.

Every ranch threatened near the Wildcat fire, they cut fences and opened gates if they didn't have the time or resources to transport the cattle via trailer to a safe area. That doesn't always guarantee that the livestock will find the gates in time or the holes in the fence.

I'm not trying to make it sound like all of the animals didn't make it, it's a very clear reality that some didn't. Mother Nature's rough at times, we all know that.

Still very thankful that there hasn't been more injuries or deaths in any area than what's already been reported.

Prayers continued for all those affected.

Good news I'd be curious to know how that happened (if you know). I don't see cattle being smart enough to go stand in the middle of a pond. I haven't heard how my Uncle's cattle fared south of Graham.

Glad to hear your cattle made it through the fire James.........When the Chapparel burned several years ago they found a lot less dead animals than expected. They are not sure if they jumped the fence or not. Animals can and will get around the fire. Some will not make it.

I was thinking the same. I have never been a big fan, but this type of thing really makes it seem cruel.
