    Deer and fire?

I would think that deer would stay out of harms way but I called a friend in Strawn today to check on them and he said that he talked to some cowboys that have been on horseback looking for cattle and have found several dead deer

I'm sure it kills some but I think the majority escape.

Bad time right now with does and brand new fawns and very pregnant does, I imagine. That's gotta slow 'em down some.

If they get trapped running the wrong direction they probably get surrounded by the fire

I bet it's the weak and old as well.......we had a couple of deer that were lucky to get in a feedpen this year. I imagine drought conditions and the heat has them in even worse condition.

It has burnt so many acres they may have got tired of running and gave up

That sucks, sure it's going to drop the fawn survival down this year. May hurt the state as much that it is burning now. Someone told me there were only 7 counties in the state not affected by the fires.

I think that's probably the answer. They're very mobile, but the fire can still trap them in. I doubt that a very high percentage will be killed that way, but some will. I imagine the same is true of a lot of other mammals.

Been hearing some horror stories of animals stacked up on high fence lines.

I sure its the smoke that get them ran down. I make me sick to think about the deer and live stock with no place to go.
