The ultimate answer is what works for you. Speed and quiet are both good things but there has been a move recently away from speed....yes I said it. More folks are realizing other factors such as FOC, penetration, and of course accuracy. You can get most any bow today to shoot fast but at what cost? Yep, put a light arrow on most any bow and turn heads with speed but at the end of the "hunt" what counts most is animal down! We could talk all day on this but what you need to do is have fun making this decision and shoot every brand bow out there and see what fits, feel, and fascinates YOU.

Find a bow that feels good in your hand, you like the way it draws and shoots and if it is a short brace height speed bow, then fine. Shoot a heavy arrow with 15%+ FOC and you will have a bow that is going to pack a lot of KE, momentum and be very quiet, forgiving and accurate. I am a converted speed freak and like the quietness, forgiveness and accuracy that a heavy arrow with 18% FOC gives me, even at the slower speed.

When you're looking at bows, try using some heavy arrows (500gr +-) when testing it. Some bows will quiet WAY down when you go significantly over the 'standard' 350gr. You'll also see that some bows will shoot that heavier arrow better (not just initial speed but retained energy) - IMO this is a better measure of bow performance than the advertised speed. Lots of good ones out there, go try them.
FOC stands for Front Of Center. Basically there's a balance that gets optimum penetration and flight performance. Think of it like throwing a lawn dart v. a piece of pipe. They are building some arrows now that are specifically designed for this, and you can also do it by raising the point weight.
