S&W AR Question what is the difference...

Cabela's is having a grand opening sale in Allen TX. they have a S&W MP Sport AR15 for 599 and a S&W OR for $749

The OR looks like the standard AR 15 upper (not that I know anything about them) and the AR looks different.

Can anyone shed light on this. Here is a link to the ad see page 27

I am not looking for a tack driver more a fun reliable plinking gun something to pick off varmints at less than 200 yards and just all around have fun with.

Is the $599 MP sport a good deal?

The $599 AR is the Sport model. It is cheaper because it lacks the forward assist and dust cover. I doubt that you will be crawling and diving in the mud/sand to justify having a dust cover, and if the bolt does not go all the way forward you will just have to pull the charging handle back again and let it slam home. If you are looking for a basic AR to just hunt & plink around with I dont think you can lose at that price.

Didn't realize that model didn't have fwd assist and dust cover. I personally would pass on that one but in reality for a casual rifle, it would probably be fine.

Cabelas in fort worth is going to have a 100 of them also. they will go fast.

Also it has a lite weight barrel. 200 yard groups will be a little wide, but still a great buy on a great gun. You can always add differect uppers down the road for other uses.

I ended up spending a little extra and got the 749 one. Now to figure out what optics I want
