TPWD revisiting the minimum draw weight...

I got an e-mail last week from a TPWD "Big Wig" requesting any data I had accumulated on draw weight ballistics and draw weight regulations in other states. BTW, the request referenced our discussions on the subject here on TBH.

Seems that the current 40# rule is currently under review by TPWD.

I have forwarded what I had and really look forward to seeing what they come up with...anyone with additional data to share with the committee looking into this, please forward it to me at lsba_editor@yahoo.com and I'll make sure they get it to consider as well.

Way to go Joey and the LSBA...
I don't really know how much "credit" we want (or can) to take for this review. We decided to pen a letter a few months back informing them that the LSBA as an organization would not be opposed to their decisions if they wanted to review this but we did not make any recommendations to date.

We kinda just served the ball into their court. Though membership was/is split on the issue, we could all agree that there is enough interest in the issue to let TPWD decide.

To be honest, I've no idea if our letter sparked this review or not...but I am happy that they're looking into it.

I'd rather see them do this than allow crossbows in october, is this not the reason for this?

this should be interesting to see how it turns out. there are plenty of other states to use as references too.

Joey, contact Steve Hall in the Hunter Education department. Steve's a good guy and could help you out. I brought Steve in as one of the Directors for the National Bowhunter Education Foundation, when I was on the board (and Steve is a serious bowhunter). Steve could contact others in the NBEF and see what the other states are doing....may cut down on the phone time for you....
