I have a pelican 110 bought it for 50 bucks from a guy at work it does ok on the rivers around the house but it is not alot of fun on open water. I bought it cause i did not know if I would like kayaking and for 50 I could justify it. I have used it on lakes and at the coast a few times and it got a little rough a few times. I am definetly saving up to get a native or wildlife. Would I have bought one new no do I enjoy my little cheap kayak yes. If you are over 6 feet tall I will tell you to wait though I am 5'9 and barely fit in it my BIL is 6'2 and cant fit in it at all

Just a thought, if you have a Costco near by, they sell kayaks. Not sure what brand.

I go out 3-4 times a month but I fish backbays and don't go far

Ok. more and more input telling me
Not to go with pelicans. I'm beginning to lean to the perception 12 pescador. Seems like a very nice yak I'm just scared of the 450!
          I'm 5'11
          19yrs
          160lb
Mainly fish rivers ,creeks, maybe try a few lakes.by Past experiences on a canoe I would say I pack light. Small tackle. Water. 1 rod/reel.
I prefer a sot since I will be Gettin out of the yak often because
Of water level change in smaller waters. I also dont plan on using a yak on the ocean but that's not to say that I won't do it.

The heritage redfish 10 looks nice as well
Only problem is that one is 100 dollars more
For two less feet than the pescador

There you go, the specs you put up are important, 5'11" (im the same) much younger by 10+yrs, twice as light...fishing rivers, creeks etc requires something in the 12ft and less length...no rudder cause rocks could break it off....thus, I would look at Academy at the Scrambler, super durable, wide and stable, 13ft long plenty of room for milk crate for carrying stuff...can mount a rod holder to the center console...etc....also, the Perception 12 is the equivalent to the Tarpon 120, great, durable, stable boat only a little shorter...the shorter, the less straight you'll go when paddlin' forward but the more manuverable you'll be (buzzin' round stumps, rocks etc) wide enough to side saddle...can't beat the price...buy it once and you've got a yak for ever...

The Redfish 10 is a badA boat fo sure...the Heritage line has very rigid plastic...I've owned Malibu's X-Factor and X-13, Ocean Kayak's Trident 15 and now am on a Heritage Redfish 14...my favorite? the one I've got now...

One more thing, go to TexasKayakfisherman.com and cruise the classifieds there, some one always has what you're lookin' for and a lil' sheeper than retail...

depending on the depth though, with a rudder, it makes it much easier backing in and our of areas...that rudder makes it easy to steer in reverse....

The perception yak would be my recommendation for you. Ten you can't put a rudder on later down the road. As far as the rudder getting broken in rivers, that would only happen if you backed up. Rudders are designed to tilt up when they are run over something
