My buddy from grade school lived in Oklahoma City for about 3 years and said it was just O.K. as far as living but he is not a hunter.
From a hunting standpoint it is definitely a sleeper for huge whitetails. (Nebraska is also a huge sleeper state) I hunt in Kansas on the OKIE border (2 miles into Kansas) and there are some sure nuff monsters running around there. Also, it ain't far from New Mexico and Colorado elk, Iowa godzilla bucks, and the far north black bears of Minnesota and Canada! Location, location, location!!!

I do all my deer hunting in OKlahoma, as I dont have a sport in Texas anymore. Ive enjoyed this year more than any other, not just because of the place we have, but its 90 miles from my fron door to cattleguard.
As for living there, people seem friendly enough, except on game day. I had a few one fingered waves yesterday as i was flying through the state with my double T and Jolly Roger flying on the the car.

lived in Ok my whole life. Its an alright place to live and the wildlife management area I hunt is like a private lease not many people out there at any given time hunting. As for good bucks I had a buck that would score over 130 30 yards away from me thursday in the WMA I hunt but never had a clear shot at him.

Fin your little smiley face thingy isn’t working.
I’ve hunted in Oklahoma for 15 years and I believe it to be one of the best places in the country to chase whitetails. You can hunt from 10/1 to 1/15 with a bow. During that time only 25 days (16 rifle, 9 black powder) do you have competition from the dreaded gun hunters. Your bag limit is 6 deer of which 3 can be bucks.
There are 76 WMA’s and/or public hunting areas scattered across the state. Also, you can still find landowners willing to let you hunt for free.
However, since they added a week to the rifle season leasing has become more prevalent. The dollars per acre are still low but it is harder to find free places to hunt. I am in danger of loosing the place I’ve hunted for 13 years because the owner is “exploring his options.”
As far as living here goes, well it aint bad. The cost of living is low and job opportunities are plentiful. We only have two MAJOR cities so you don’t have the metro mess problems. I will admit that most Okies don’t know how to drive. Hell, the forecast of rain causes at least 20 additional wrecks. But, as Legdog will confirm, walk-ins are welcome at most dentist office.
With all that being said, stay the hell out.It has taken me 15 years to whip this place into shape and I don’t want to start over with a bunch of Texicans.

I was born in Tulsa and lived just outside of Okmulgee through highschool and then went to the University of Tulsa for college. Moved to Houston once I graduated. I enjoyed growing up and hunting there, my folks live in Bartlesville now and they really like it there. I'll be headed to the NW part of the state this weekend for the opening of rifle season. I take my dad up there every year since he doesn't bow hunt, this is our time to get to spend together in the woods. Some Monster bucks up there in that part of the state, I'll be hunting just a couple miles north of Mooreland, OK. I live in TX, but OK is home.
