NM continues to bite the hand that feeds them - Texans.

I would be real interested in seeing true data as to the amount of money non-residents contributed to NM economy via hunting. Without Texans' support who is going to pay those ridiculous landowner fees/tags, support the guides, rent the motels, eat at the restaurants, rent the horses, etc. IMO there is much better value for your hunting dollar elsewhere - especially now!

I do think that Texas should raise it's non-resident hunt license to $500.00 or more since it is such a better value vs. the single tag draw system of Western States.

Look it up. For elk rifle more than half, archery elk less than half. But many of the units that are limited draw have lots of tags left over. If you want to hunt elk in CO you can. If you want to hunt elk in NM you got to pay to evey try to draw a tag.

Deer are all draw in CO but many units you can draw with no points and can build up points in a few years and you will get a tag. NM no so.

This law only increases your odds to draw a tag by a small margin. It will cost your state thousands.

Have you thought this will actually help the situation. Lots of people enter everywhere just to get drawn. Those folks most likely wont enter in NM anymore. So the actual number of entries will be much lower. Now only the folks who truely want to hunt NM will be entering. I have never done out of state hunting so I may be completely wrong.

Your still going to have the NR paying $65 for the lic. Plus the app fee. If you have to have the license before you can put in for a tag, it is still a win win for NM.

Wyoming has a certain number of tags for NR. A certain number for Residents. Plus you can buy points and not even put in for a tag. There are a lot of areas in Wyoming that even a resident doesn't get drawn for. It is all in the luck of the draw. NM is no different. People will still apply for tags, and give the state their money.

That is what the state is betting on. But not many will pay $65 for a 1.5% chance or less for one or two NR tags in the better units. For $5 or $10 you might give it a go, but for $65 not so much. The funny thing is the whole stink will only increase the residents odds by a precent or two in the good units.

Well, if this is such a good deal for ya, you have no reason to be upset. Colorado sounds like a hell of a deal..

When we can kill mulies like this in Texas I'll stay in Texas. New Mexico's biggest problem is the majority of it's resident hunting population anyway.

Kansas used to not allow Non Resident hunters at all untill other states recipocated the treatment to Kansas Residents. It's not a bad idea.

Yep you are right but the numbers are very interesting. If you got enough money you can buy a tag, if you have enough money you can now enter the draw. What we need is laws that drive the cost of hunting.

Yep and that is where I will be taking my money from now on. If the folks in NM do not want us out of state hunters we should all stay away.
